Here in BCPS, we're committed to nurturing the full potential of every student. That's why we developed our district’s Graduate Profile – a roadmap that outlines the essential skills and qualities our students strive to embody during their time with us.
"Our Graduate Profile is a reflection of our deep commitment to student success," says Dr. Adrienne Usher, Assistant Superintendent. "It represents the collective vision of our community and serves as a guide for our teachers and our students as they navigate their educational journey."
Our Graduate Profile is built on six core competencies: Mastery Learner, Innovative Problem Solver, Effective Communicator, Productive Collaborator, Self-Directed Navigator, and Community Contributor. These components are the result of extensive collaboration with teachers, district staff, community members, families, local businesses, and higher education partners.
To bring our Graduate Profile to life, teams of dedicated teachers are working closely with Envision Learning Partners (ELP). Together, we're defining "performance outcomes" for each competency. These outcomes describe the cognitive skills our students will learn and demonstrate, focusing on the 'what' rather than the 'how'.
"Our partnership with Envision Learning Partners has been instrumental in defining what each competency truly looks like in our classrooms," says Dr. Brandy Howard, Chief Academic Officer at BCPS. "These outcomes are designed to empower our students with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world – no matter what path they choose moving forward."
This work aligns not only with our district's mission to inspire and equip our students to succeed in life, but also with our instructional vision. This vision includes elements such as Authentic Learning Experiences, Student Voice, and Community Partnerships, and helps ensure that our students are engaged in meaningful learning that prepares them for the challenges of the future.
We're excited about the progress we're making and the impact it will have on our students. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on this journey of growth and learning together!
