Dear BCPS Families,
I hope you all had a restful and joyful winter break filled with time to recharge and create lasting memories with loved ones. As we transition into the second half of the school year, we are excited to welcome our students back and continue moving forward together. However, we know that this time of year often brings the threat of winter weather, and we want to assure you that BCPS is proactive in our approach to safety and communication.
With potential winter weather forecasted for Sunday, we are closely monitoring conditions. If closures are necessary, the next available day will be a Bullitt Day for staff preparation. For example, if road conditions on Monday prevent staff from reporting for the scheduled Bullitt Day, we will close the district and postpone the start of the semester. In this case, Tuesday, January 7th will become a Bullitt Day, and students will return on Wednesday, January 8th.
If travel conditions remain unsafe on Tuesday, we will close the district again and delay the semester another day. Wednesday, January 8th will then become a Bullitt Day, and students will return on Thursday, January 9th.
After a long break, this approach allows our teachers and staff to plan, organize, and create a welcoming environment for our students upon their return. Missed days will follow the traditional snow day approach and be added to the school calendar later. Athletic and extracurricular activities will be evaluated on a daily basis, and decisions will prioritize the well-being of our students.
We will keep you informed and share updates as early as possible through email, text alerts, and social media. Please make sure your contact information is up to date to stay connected.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate the challenges of winter weather and ensure the safety of our BCPS community. Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll keep you updated!
Warm regards,
Jesse Bacon
