Frankfort, KY — In celebration of National Public Schools Week, Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jesse Bacon joined education leaders from across the state for the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) Legislative Drive-In Day at the State Capitol. Dr. Bacon participated in a press conference in the Rotunda alongside fellow advocates to highlight the importance of public education funding, teacher support, and student success initiatives.
During the event, Dr. Bacon had the opportunity to connect with Representatives Peyton Griffee and Emily Callaway, engaging in meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing BCPS. Their conversations emphasized the district’s commitment to ensuring students, teachers, and staff have the resources they need to thrive.
"National Public Schools Week is a time to celebrate the impact of public education and advocate for the policies that support our students and educators," Dr. Bacon said. "It’s important that we work together to ensure every student has access to a high-quality education. I am grateful to KASA for organizing this event and to all the leaders who are working together to move Kentucky education forward."
Advocacy as a Responsibility for the Future
National Public Schools Week is an annual observance dedicated to recognizing the role of public schools in shaping the future of our communities. The week underscores the importance of strong public school systems and calls on policymakers to support education through legislation that prioritizes student success and teacher retention.
Public education is the foundation of strong communities, and advocacy plays a crucial role in securing the resources and policies that help schools succeed. Here in BCPS, this aligns with our Core Values of being Future-Focused—ensuring today’s decisions create better opportunities for tomorrow’s students—and embracing Shared Accountability, recognizing that the success of public education depends on a collective effort among educators, policymakers, and community members.
A Unified Voice for Public Schools
KASA’s Legislative Drive-In Day provides a platform for school leaders across the state to meet directly with legislators and discuss key education priorities. The event, held during a busy legislative session, ensures state policymakers hear firsthand from those working in Kentucky’s public schools every day.
Dr. Bacon’s participation in this event is part of BCPS’s ongoing commitment to advocating for policies that support students, teachers, and families. There was also a proclamation signing at the event, where Kentucky leaders officially declared February 24-28, 2025, as Kentucky Public Schools Week.
