Bullitt County Public Schools is proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of the Bullitt County Youth Coalition (BCYC), which recently attended the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) Conference in Washington, D.C. At this prestigious event, BCYC was honored with the Major General Arthur T. Dean Chairman's Award, a recognition given to a recent National Coalition Academy graduate that exemplifies leadership and advocacy for change.
Being recognized on a national stage in front of over 4,000 attendees is a remarkable honor for BCYC. This award reflects the students' commitment to making a lasting impact in their community, reinforcing the values of community contribution and effective communication—two essential components of the BCPS Graduate Profile.
Beyond the award, BCYC members took full advantage of their time in Washington, heading to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators and advocate for policies that address pressing issues in Bullitt County. Through these discussions, students demonstrated their ability to engage in meaningful discourse, think critically about solutions, and navigate the complexities of policy-making—all hallmarks of productive collaboration and self-directed navigation.
BCPS Superintendent Dr. Jesse Bacon praised the coalition’s efforts, stating:
"The Bullitt County Youth Coalition is a shining example of the leadership, initiative, and advocacy we hope to instill in all our students. Their work is not only making a difference in our community today but also preparing them to be the change-makers of tomorrow. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their continued impact."
With this recognition, BCYC is now a nationally recognized youth coalition—a testament to their hard work, leadership, and dedication to driving positive change. And as they proudly declare: they’re just getting started.
