The Technical Opportunity Night hosted by the Bullitt County Area Technology Center on February 1st was a tremendous success. The standing room only crowd gathered in the Bullitt Central Media Center to learn about all of the tremendous opportunities that Bullitt County students have in high-wage, high-demand, career pathways offered by the Bullitt County ATC. The audience learned how Bullitt County students have some of the most unique and innovative opportunities in the state of Kentucky.
The Bullitt County Area Technology Center offers high school pathways in Aviation, Automotive, Carpentry, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, Masonry, and Welding.
The Area Technology Center in partnership with Jefferson Technical and Community college offers a dual credit Aviation Maintenance Program where students can complete 50% of their associates degree in high school and can earn their general and powerplant certificates. This dual credit program has been nationally recognized and is the only dual credit cohort aviation program in the state of Kentucky and one of a very few nationally. One former student that graduated in 2019 is currently a newly hired Aviation Maintenance Technician for Republic Airways.
The ATC, JCTC, Bullitt County Fiscal Court, and Bullitt County EMS have partnered to create the state's first dual credit cohort program to fill the need for Emergency Medical Technicians in Bullitt County. The ATC is recruiting for its 5th cohort and reports that the Bullitt County EMS currently has 9 working EMT's that came directly out of this program. Many of those are now paramedics and one is working part-time while pursuing medical school. .
The audience also learned about the KY FAme program in Industrial Maintenance and the tremendous opportunities within that program. Two of our former students including a 2023 graduate are in the Fame program working for Clariant in Louisville. These students get paid to work 5 days a week with a schedule that includes 3 days working in industry and 2 days training at JCTC. In two years they will earn an associates degree while working full time and not accumulating any debt.
The presentation also recognized a former automotive student that graduated in 2022. This student spent his senior year in the Mercedes Accelerate program. He graduated high school, earned his certification through Mercedes, and is working as a Mercedes mechanic in Louisville.
We especially want to thank Bullitt Central High School for letting us host this event and helping us to arrange for more chairs for our large crowd. We also want to thank all of the JCTC faculty and business partners, including Bullitt County EMS, that attended and spoke about our tremendous partnerships.
Please contact the Area Technology Center if you would like to learn more about these tremendous opportunities.
