OES families: Bus 1818 is not running today. Students may be dropped off via the car loop at the front of the building between 8:30 AM and 9 AM. Pick up instructions for the end of the day will be sent this afternoon. Watch texts and emails.
In fifth grade, we are currently reading the novel Refugee by Alan Gratz, and students had an incredible real-world connection to the story today. 🇺🇸📖
They thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mr. Swisher, a retired Marine, share about his experiences assisting refugees in the Middle East. He showed videos of sandstorms, explained why photos of refugees (and themselves) were not permitted, and helped students better understand the realities refugees face beyond the pages of the novel.
This experience truly brought the story to life and helped students deepen their understanding through a powerful, real-world perspective. We are so thankful for opportunities like this that make learning meaningful and memorable! ❤️
