Recently, 25 Leadership Members from the Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce visited the Bullitt County Area Technology Center, Riverview Opportunity Center, and the Bullitt County JCTC Campus to witness our district's focus on innovative and Authentic Learning Experiences that engage students in real-world applications. Events like these help highlight our district’s commitment to providing a solid, useful education valued by everyone in our community, including local businesses.
As part of their visit, our guests were introduced to the BCPS Graduate Profile, a key framework that prepares students with the “competencies” (skills) they need to succeed beyond the classroom. The day was filled with collaboration, learning, and an inspiring look at the future-focused education BCPS provides.
While on site, Chamber members toured our campuses and heard directly from students in our Career Readiness Center (CRC), Bullitt Advanced Math and Science Program (BAMS), and the Area Technology Center as they showcased their learning. Chamber members engaged with our students as they demonstrated their skills as Effective Communicators and Innovative Problem Solvers while collaborating on authentic, hands-on projects.
A standout moment from the day was when Chamber Members participated in the Industrial Maintenance class’ “Bridge Project”, where they served as judges, providing feedback and encouragement to our aspiring engineers. This interaction gave Chamber Members a firsthand look into the type of learning experiences BCPS is crafting for our students and it also helped strengthen the ties between our schools and local business community.
Dr. Lee Barger, BCPS Director of College and Career Readiness and Innovation, shared, "It was so inspiring to see our students actively engage with community leaders, showcasing their talents and the real-world applications of their learning. Events like these illustrate our commitment to developing Self-Directed Navigators and Mastery Learners that are ready to contribute to our community."
As we continue Moving Forward with Authentic Learning Experiences, we are proud to connect our students with local leaders in these meaningful ways, reinforcing the importance of community contribution and collaboration in preparing our students for a successful future - both inside the classroom and beyond!
